The Indian markets replicate yesterday's trade and ended on a flat note despite positive surprises from heavyweights L&T and Ashok Leyland. Sluggish breadth, moderate volumes and indifferent participation by heavyweights failed the Nifty to lift over 5450 mark -- 30 points from yesterday's close.

L&T surprised the streets by maintaining margins for the current financial year and strong guidance gave further fillip to the stock. L&T was accompanied by Ashok Leyland and Jet Airways in terms of earning shockers.

The Sensex shut shop at 18141.40 up 55.20 points or 0.31% and the Nifty closed at 5438.3 up 17.70 points or 0.33%. About 1121 shares advanced, 1697 shares declined, and 823 shares remain unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex were L&T at Rs 1,594.90 up 5.92%, Reliance at Rs 914.90 up 1.45%, ONGC at Rs 277.30 up 1.20%, TCS at Rs 1,164.70 up 1.14% and M&M at Rs 676.70 up 1.11%.
