Helped by strong corporate earnings the Dow Jones index set a new closing high for the third day in a row, with investors wondering if it would breach the 13000-mark.

The blue-chip index ended the week rising 1.2 per cent yesterday — 153.35 points — up at 12,966.29, after Thursday''s 12,808.6. Since October 2006, the Dow Jones has notched over 30 closing records.

The Nasdaq and the Standard & Poor''s 500 index also closed at their highest in over six years.

The recent closing records are in contrast to the extreme volatility in global indices earlier this year nad market analysts predict that the index would breach the 13000-mark.
