New York: The Nasdaq Stock Market (www.nasdaq.com) has applauded US President George W Bushs selection of William Donaldson to serve as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

We strongly support Bushs nomination of Donaldson as SEC chief, says Nasdaq chairman and CEO Wick Simmons. Bill has the right combination of government, business and Wall Street experience to reassure investors of the general health of our securities markets. He will hit the ground running. We look forward to working closely with him and the SEC team.

Nasdaq is the worlds largest electronic stock market. With approximately 3,800 companies, Nasdaq lists more companies and trades more shares per day than any other US market. Over the past five years, Nasdaq has outpaced all other US markets in listing IPOs.
