Radia tapes: SC seeks government’s reply to Tata’s plea

The Supreme Court has sought a reply from the central government on whether it would share the probe report on the leakage of the controversial taped conversations of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia with Tata group chairman Ratan Tata.
A bench comprising justices GS Singhvi and SJ Mukhopadhyay has asked the government to file its response to Tata's plea seeking access to contents of the probe report within three weeks.
The SC has posted the matter for further hearing on 27 March.
The government had, on 31 January, told the SC that the Radia tapes telecast by media organisations were ''doctored'' and that the government agencies were not responsible for its leakage.
The government had also said that the taping of the conversations was organised by eight to 10 agencies, including service providers.
The government had filed the report with the SC bench on 31 January in a sealed envelope but the contents are still not accessible to the defendant or the public at large.
