Tag Heuer is ready to launch its second generation Android Wear 2.0-powered smartwatch.

Jean-Claude Biver, the CEO of Tag Heuer confirmed in an interview with the publication Neue Zürcher Zeitung that the company would unveil the 2017 Tag Heuer Connected model in May this year.

"The watches of the first series are almost all sold, the new collection comes in May. This year we plan to sell 150,000 pieces (translated)," Biver said.

The smartwatch would be offered in two sizes and in better hardware. The smaller of the two models had been aimed at women. The two models would also come in different colours and finish.

''We sold 56,000 units in the fourteen months since the launch in November 2015, much more than the originally expected 20,000,'' Biver told Neue Zürcher Zeitung.

He revealed that the new iteration of the Tag Heuer Connected watches would come with built-in GPS tracking, longer battery life, a better display and NFC for Android Pay.

The new line would also have more colours and finishes instead of just different coloured watch bands. Just like with the original devices, the new line would be made in partnership with Intel, according to Forbes. Biver added that the watches would not carry Tag Heuer's ''Swiss Made'' label.

The new Tag Heuer Connected smartwatches would run Google's Android Wear 2.0, which is set to release in February. The first devices running the software would come from LG. New Balance, Casio and Swarovski were interested in making smartwatches running the same software, he added.

Biver did not give out information on the price of the new Tag Heuer Connected devices. But the previous model's $1,500 price tag was an indication that it would not be cheap, according to commentators.
