Saeed Mirza heads Society of Film and Television Institute of India

Saeed Mirza has been nominated president of the reconstituted Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society and chairman of its governing council, the ministry of information and broadcasting said today.

The Society of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune has been reconstituted with effect from 4 March 2011. The new board will continue for a period of three years of until further orders, whichever is earlier, an official release said today.

Other ex-officio members of the reconstituted society include: joint secretary (films) of the information and broadcasting ministry or a nominee of the official not below the rank of deputy secretary; chief executive officer of Prasar Bharati or a nominee not below the rank of deputy director general; additional secretary and financial adviser of the I&B ministry or a nominee thereof not below the rank of deputy secretary; chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification; managing director of the National Film Development Corporation; chief producer of Films Division, Mumbai; director of the National School of Drama; director of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication; director of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Pune; director of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune; and director of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata.

These officials have been nominated to the FTII Society by virtue of their official position. They will remain members of the Society as long as they retain the office or status by virtue of which they became members of the Society, the release said.

The government also nominated joint secretary of the ministry of culture, chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Academy, Leela Samson and the director general of Doordarshan in the category of "experts representing the activities of the central government" as members of the FTII Society.

Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ratan Thiyyam, Shazi Zaman, Rajiv Mehrotra, RamaVij, Benoy K Behl and Kiran Seth have been nominated to the FTII Society in the category of "persons of eminence connected with films and television education, journalism, literature, fine arts, dramatics, performing arts etc.

Zareena Wahab, Rajkumar Hirani, Raza Murad, Subhash Chandra Sahoo will represent the "alumni of FTII" in the reconstituted Society.
