Schneider Electric launches In-Diya – a highly energy-efficient LED based Lighting System

Electrical products maker Schneider Electric today launched a new range of energy-efficient LED-based lighting system, In-Diya, dor markets with irregulas power supply that can operate on a main power supply and / or solar power, and provides a backup ranging from 8 to 15 hours for indoor applications.

Available in nine different variants, the price of the basic model with 45 LEDs starts from Rs550, powered by an external chargeable battery. The high-end variant, a 90 LED solar home lighting system, which is compatible with the electrical grid, is priced at Rs4,500.

According to Jean-Pascal Tricoire, president and CEO, Schneider Electric, "This innovative product will play a key role in providing access to reliable lighting to 500 million people, thereby enabling them to take part in the inclusive growth story of India. In-Diya is an innovation by our engineers with the Indian R&D centre and we intend to take this offer to many parts of the world.''

Schneider says the product consumes 50 per cwent less power than 11W CFL and 90 per cent less power than 60 watt incandescent lamp for the same light output. The high-end version costs less than any CFL based solar home lighting system. The lighting sysytem had a life of 50,000 hours, the company added.

Bernard Golstein, director marketing and alliances, Schneider Electric India, said, ''In-Diya is the only available LED-based Lighting System which can fully illuminate a typical Indian rural house and provide 8 to 15 hours of backup."

Tricoire said the product innovation was in line with the company's sustainable development initiative, BipBop, which stands for ''Business Investment People for the Bottom of the Pyramid''.
