Sri Lanka's largest exporter Brandix Lanka Limited has announced the setting up of an apparel city in Adhra Pradesh. The company says, the project would create a centre that will make India the next big manufacturing hub for the South Asian garment industry.

The proposed apparel city, to be named 'Brandix India Apparel City' (BIAC), will be an integrated apparel supply chain city and will be managed by Brandix. According to online trade publication Fibre2fabric, the project has been granted SEZ status.

As a vertically integrated operation, the company feels that investors will benefit from being able to rely on global expertise to fulfil its designing, manufacturing, sourcing, logistics, technology and training requirements, all under one roof.

Brandix has also set-up an 18,000-sq ft training centre outside this SEZ where it is currently training 200 women in collaboration with the District Rural Development Agency, Visakhapatnam.

Brandix has an annual consolidated group turnover of over $280 million and says that its command of its supply chain in both woven and knits is its key strength because of its presence in apparel manufacturing and finishing, design and development, fabric and accessories including thread, buttons and hangers.

The 30-year old group has grown through strategic acquisitions, joint-ventures and investments linked to its core-business of apparel manufacturing and leveraging on vendor partnerships. It is also a provider to international buyers like Gap, M&S, Victoria's Secret, NEXT and Abercrombie & Fitch.
