BMW to Launch New EVs in India After Record 2025 Sales
By Axel Miller | 09 Jan 2026
BMW Group India is preparing to introduce three new electric vehicle (EV) models in 2026, according to company executives, as it builds on its strongest-ever performance in the Indian market and deepens its focus on electrification in the luxury segment.
The planned launches follow a record year for the German automaker in India. BMW Group India said it delivered 18,001 vehicles across its BMW and MINI brands in 2025, marking a 14% year-on-year increase and outperforming growth in the broader luxury car market.
Focus on battery-electric vehicles
BMW’s electrification strategy in India remains firmly centered on battery-electric vehicles. Speaking at a briefing on January 8, BMW Group India President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar said the company does not currently plan to introduce hybrid models in the country and will instead prioritise pure EVs as demand strengthens.
The company is targeting electric vehicles to account for around 25% of its total India sales by 2026. Progress toward that goal has accelerated over the past year. BMW said EVs made up about 21% of its India sales in 2025, up from roughly 8% in 2024, with the share rising to around 23% in the final quarter of the year.
Overall, BMW Group India delivered 3,753 electric vehicles last year across the BMW and MINI portfolios, representing nearly threefold growth compared with the previous year, according to company data.
Product expansion and retail investment
The upcoming EV launches form part of a broader product rollout planned for 2026, which will include several new and refreshed models across the lineup. Alongside new products, BMW said it plans to invest approximately ₹4 billion to upgrade its dealership network under its “Retail.Next” initiative and expand its presence by adding 19 new outlets across 18 cities.
BMW said it continues to lead India’s luxury EV segment, supported by locally assembled models such as the BMW iX1. The long-wheelbase version of the iX1, priced from ₹4.90 million (ex-showroom), has emerged as the brand’s top-selling electric model, attracting a significant number of first-time luxury car buyers upgrading from mass-market brands.
Charging infrastructure push
To support long-distance EV adoption, BMW has also expanded its charging infrastructure beyond dealerships. The company recently announced a high-power charging corridor spanning roughly 4,000 kilometres, running from Jammu in the north to Madurai in the south, with fast chargers placed at regular intervals along key highways.
The initiative is aimed at easing range anxiety among premium EV buyers and supporting broader use of electric vehicles for intercity travel.
Summary
BMW Group India plans to introduce three new electric models in 2026 as it builds on record sales of 18,001 vehicles in 2025. With EVs already accounting for more than one-fifth of its India sales, BMW is doubling down on battery-electric vehicles, expanding its product lineup, upgrading its retail network, and investing in charging infrastructure to maintain its lead in the country’s luxury EV segment.
