Forex earning from tourists up 10.6% at $1.48 bn in April

Foreign exchange earnings from tourism stood at $1.475 billion (Rs8,909 crore) in April 2014, showing a growth of 10.6 per cent in dollar terms and a 22.8 per cent growth in rupee terms.
Foreign exchange earnings from tourism stood at $1.334 billion during April 2013 up 2.2 per cent compared to $1.305 billion in April 2012.
Earnings from foreign tourists in rupee terms stood at Rs7,252 crore in April 2013 up 7.5 per cent compared to Rs6,745 crore in April 2012.
Dollar earnings from tourism during January-April 2014 grew at a negative 2.0 per cent to $6.78 billion, compared to a 10.3 per cent growth recorded at $6.92 billion in January-April 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012.
Foreign exchange earnings from tourism in rupee terms during January-April 2014 rose 11.2 per cent year-on-year to Rs41,718 crore compared to the level of Rs37,522 crore in January-April 2013, which in turn grew 18.3 per cent over the corresponding period of 2012.
Arrival of foreign tourist in the country at 5.04 lakh during April 2014 showed a growth of 11.5 per cent over arrivals of 4.52 lakh in April 2013, which in turn showed a 0.89 per cent growth over the levels of 4.48 lakh in April 2012.
Foreign tourist arrivals during January-April 2014 rose 6.1 per cent to 26.31 lakh compared to a 2.6 per cent growth to 24.80 lakh during January-April 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012.
