India''s first fast food chain, Nirula''s is ready to go national after 72 years! Mumbaiites will now get a taste of Delhi''s ultimate desert- the hot chocolate fudge with the opening of the first Nirulas outlet in the next six months.

The management and the company has been restructured and Nirulas is finally getting aggressive about its expansion plans. This after it was gobbled by Malaysian private equity fund Navis Capital Partner last year. The new management is looking at revamping the brand with an over Rs100 crore infusion.

It was in 1934 when the Nirula''s family began its first restaurant in Delhi. It was in the ''70s that it ventured into the fast food business and even gave India its first salad bar. Gradually Nirula''s spread out across the North with stores in Panipat, Dehradun, Chandigarh and Lucknow. For people of Delhi a trip to Nirulas is a trip down memory lane.

Nirula''s current turnover is estimated around Rs80 crore and it hopes its expansion and marketing strategy will help it touch Rs400 crore in five years.
