CEC orders CBI probe into mining leases to Yeddyurappa's relatives

The Supreme Court-appointed central empowered committee (CEC) has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe against former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa's relatives in connection with his role in the mining scam.
The CEC said there were gross irregularities in the allotment of mining leases to companies owned by relatives of the former chief minister. Yeddyurappa however said he had the highest faith in the judiciary.
He said CEC was only a recommending authority and added its recommendation was not final and it was left to the Supreme Court to take the final decision. He added at this stage he would not like to comment.
He said whatever he wanted to say, his advocates would submit to the Supreme Court. He added he had the highest faith in the judiciary and he would get justice.
Yeddyurappa had been forced to quit in July 2011 by the BJP central leadership after his indictment by the Lokayukta in its report on illegal mining.
Former Lokayukta, retired Supreme Court judge Santosh Hegde's inquiry into mining graft in Karnataka had accused Yeddyurappa and other key officials for causing to the state exchequer a loss of Rs16,000 crore between 2006 and 2010.
