Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has announced the TAG Heuer Connected Module 41, a smaller version of the Connected Module 45 which launched in Q1 of last year. As the name suggests, the Connected Module 41 measures 41mm in diameter, which is not very small for a watch.

TAG is set to release seven standard models of the Connected Module 41, and nine different straps (including three new colors: pink, blue, and white leather). The watch runs Android Wear as expected, but TAG has not specified exactly which version it is running.

As the Connected Module 45 is set to "eventually" receive an update to Oreo, it may be reasonable to assume TAG's new watch too will be getting Oreo soon, if it is launching with it already, according to commentators. The Connected Module 41 would also retail for less than its larger cousin, with prices starting at $1,200 as against $1,550 for the 45mm model.

According to commentators, some may consider that price to be still be too hefty a sum to pay for a smartwatch. They point out that the watch does come with the sort of quality and craftsmanship that could be expected from a premium watchmaker like TAG Heuer.

Internally, the watch has been significantly upgraded, with doubling of RAM and storage to 1GB and 8GB, respectively. TAG has not said whether it has kept the Intel Atom Z34XX processor that is on the Connected Module 45 but it would not be surprising if they had.

Commentators point out that after the launch of its second generation Android Wear device last March, the Swiss watchmaker has released a version for smaller wrists.

They further point out that given the amount of customisations available, the price can quickly skyrocket with the 45 working out at $6,750 for a diamond bezel and calfskin strap maximum.
