Surat textile park to provide jobs for over 25,000 people

The Gujarat Eco Textile Park, which will start operation in Surat from tomorrow, is expected to produce textile products worth Rs850 crore annually and provide employment for around 25,000 people.

Union textile minister Dayanidhi Maran will open the textile park, set up at cost of Rs129 crore under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), tomorrow. 

The park, set up in an area of 104 acre, is expected to attract investments to the tune of Rs705 crore, a textile ministry release said today. 

The Surat textile park will be a centre of excellence having units for technical textiles units, processing units, high-tech weaving units, embroidery units and composite units.

The park will have common effluent treatment plant of 60 MLD, solid waste-to-energy (power and steam) 10 million kcal/hr incinerator, 12 MW natural-gas-based captive power plant with co-generation of steam, rainwater harvesting at park and units level as also a water supply and storm water drainage system.

The textile park will make use of fly ash in construction of roads and buildings. Besides it is proposed to plant 25,000 trees in and around the park.

The textile park will also have a training centre, design centre, conference hall, R&D centre, exhibition hall, bank, restaurant, guesthouse and medical facilities.
