Marks and Spencer is planning a fresh initiative in branded goods when it starts stocking a selection of beauty products. The announcement of the move is likely to be made with group's annual results in 10 days time.

Though the retailer is yet to make the plans public, the stalwart is understood to have plans to launch a range of third party beauty brands into selected stores.

According to the buzz, all of the brands would be exclusive to M&S, which also includes a French natural beauty and skincare range, Nuxe.

The move would follow a similar initiative in food, where chief executive Marc Bolland introduced a selection of exclusive international food brands, under the ''Only at Your M&S'' banner.

However, the venture into third party beauty brands would run counter to other moves by Bolland, who has significantly cut down M&S's branded lines.

Bolland dumped electricals and cut down branded food lines from 400 to 100.
