Following the setting up of malls and commercial outlets at stations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) now plans to augment its income through coffee shops, for which it has tied up with Swiss retail chain- Dufry International AG- and InterGlobe Retail- a sister concern of IndiGo Airlines. The tie-up would oversee the establishment of the Hudson News Cafes across 57 stations.

According to DMRC sources, it was the first time that Hudson News Cafe, a global retail chain brand, was making its foray into the Indian market. The Hudson News Cafe currently operates over 500 shops in 10 countries across the globe.

According to a Delhi Metro spokesperson, work on setting up the stores had already begun.

Most of the cafes would be located at stations with high footfall, and would have a comprehensive and wide selection of food and beverages, newspapers, magazines, books, health and beauty aids, electronics, mobile recharge and travel accessories.

A DMRC spokesperson said, the café area would provide food and beverages ideal for commuters such as quick breakfasts, light meals and the total contract period would be 15-years. The cafes would cover an area of 2,000 square meters.
