Coal India production rises 7% to 607 million tonne in FY19

Coal India Ltd has reported a 7 per cent increase in production in 2018-19 to 606.9 million tonne, compared to the 567.4 million tonnes of coal produced in the previous financial year.

CIL’s production during the financial year, however, is a shade below the 610 million tonne target se in the MoU signed with the coal ministry. Coal India is reported to have projected an aspirational target of 652 million tonne for the year.
In a filing with stock exchanges, CIL the largest coal miner, said coal offtake from its mines rose 4.8 per cent to 608.1 million tonne during the year compared with the offtake of 580.3 million tonne in the previous fiscal.
CIL’s coal production peaked in March 2019, with an output of 79.19 million tonnes, the highest monthly production since inception.
Coal supply to power sector rose 7 per cent to 488 million tonnes year-on-year.
The pithead coal stock stood at 54 million tonnes while cumulative stock at power plants stood at 30.41 million tonne.
The South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), however, crossed coal production 2018-19 target of 150 million tonnes, for the first time in a financial year. 
SECL crossed the 150 million tonnes with a production figure of 153 million tonnes on 20 March, reports citing company sources said. 
SECL is also reported to have touched the highest ever single day production of 7.44 lakh tonnes in the month. 
During FY 2017-18, the SECL had produced 144.7 million tonnes of coal.
