Ipswich-based pie outlet Big Dad's Pies could become another well known name like McDonald's in Australia, after its franchising arm was bought over by Retail Food Group (RFG).

According to RFG CEO Tony Alford, Big Dad's Pies franchise system comprises 37 South East Queensland based outlets reputed for their specialty pies produced fresh daily.

He added that the menu offered is complemented by various other quality products that would add to the company' existing line of Brumbys Bakeries franchise system.

He added that, Big Dads Pies would be aligned to, and developed under the umbrella of, the Brumbys system. It would represent further opportunity to add a successful, value accretive business capable of providing additional scale, revenues, synergies and intellectual property expansion to the company's retail food franchise system portfolio.

CEO of Big Dad's Pies, Stephen Donnelly, said the company did not have the expertise in franchising needed to expand the store so RFG was called in.

Donnelly said the number of stores would double within two years and exceed 150 within five years.
