SBI Bengal circle net profit at Rs 230 crore

Kolkata: State Bank of Indias Bengal circle, with a branch strength of 785 spread over West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, recorded a net profit of Rs 230 crore in 2001-02.

According to a press release issued here, the bulk of the incremental deposit of Rs 1,923 crore came from the personal banking segment. The total advances were at Rs 6,033 crore. The housing loan, the key component of the advance portfolio, touched the level of Rs 110 crore.

The other highlights included rise in non-interest income by more than 10 per cent, gross reduction of Rs 227 crore of non-performing assets, completion of the technological upgradation programme in 47 branches and operation of 50 ATMs. Nearly 30 per cent of the Bengal circle branches, mostly large and medium-sized, are now computerised.
