Chennai: Having set up 20 regional processing centres (RPCs) to take care of its back-office functions, ICICI Bank is now planning to add a couple of more such centres shortly.

The bank initially established an RPC in each metro, but as the business volumes grew these centres were forced to expand. In Tamil Nadu alone, ICICI Bank already has three RPCs two in Chennai and the third at Coimbatore. It is planning to establish an RPC in Tiruchi, too.

The RPCs were primarily established to take care of office functions, such as opening of an account and account renewals, to enable the branch to concentrate on its core business activity. These centres took care of the banks requirements, including preparing various reports like the key performing report.

A specialised team takes care of these functions, bank sources said. While these centres take care of branch functions in their respective regions, the bank has a centralised database in Mumbai that handles all functions.
