Leaders of the world's eight richest economies (G8) gathered at Camp David, Maryland, the United States today to discuss ways of dealing with the European debt crisis that has now threatened to trigger global financial turmoil.

US is hosting the summit of the G8, which comprises the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada and Russia, at the secluded presidential retreat, in a bid to ward off protestors.

The G8 summit comes just before this year's NATO summit that is expected to discuss a safe passage for NATO in Afghanistan besides Iran and Syria.

The G8 summit comes at a time when the threat of Greece exiting the euro-zone is heightening worry about economic stability of a weak Europe and its potential to blow into a bigger global economic crisis.

The focus of G-8 leaders at their hour-long working session in the morning was on the global economy and the fall-out of the euro crisis.

However, there were signs of discord over the euro zone crisis even as UK premier David Cameron was to join other G8 leaders at the talks on the Greek debt crisis.
