India to take over presidency of G-24

India will chair the Group of 24 (G-24) ministers' meeting in New York, to be held on 22 September, on the sidelines of the annual World Bank-IMF meeting.
India is assuming the presidency of G-24 after a gap of almost three decades. Indian finance minister Pranab Mukherjee will assume presidency of the G-24 from Pravin J Gordhan, finance minister of South Africa.
The G-24 meeting will discuss issues of global economic recovery, growth and development in the current environment. It will also discuss the strategy and action plan for enhancing the effectiveness of the G-24.
Mukherjee, who is heading a delegation of government officials, CEOs of major Indian industry groups and heads of industry bodies, will also attend a working dinner meeting of G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors to discuss global economy and framework. Mukherjee will leave for Washington in the evening.
The finance minister will also attend a meeting of BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) finance ministers in the afternoon on 22 September. The meeting has been convened by India to explore the manner in which the group consisting can coordinate in addressing the evolving economic and financial situations in various countries of the world.
The main objective of the meeting is to discuss the concerns regarding the current situation of the global economy and the policy response by BRICS member countries.
