India signs uranium deal with Mongolia

India today signed a uranium supply agreement with Mongolia along with four other agreements aimed at increasing mutual economic ties.
Mongolia is the fifth country to seal a civil nuclear agreement with India after the US-India nuclear cooperation agreement and the subsequent lifting of restrictions on India by the nuclear suppliers group.
India has already signed agreements with the US, France, Russia and Kazakhstan for sourcing uranium.
The four other agreements related to loan assistance for economic stabilisation, health and medical science, cooperation in statistical matters and a cultural exchange programme for 2009-2012.
New Delhi has announced a soft loan of $25 million to rejuvenate the economy of the resource-rich Central Asian nation
The agreements were signed following talks between prime minister Manmohan Singh and Mongolian president Tsakhia Elbegdorj.
Senior officials in the department of atomic energy of the two countries signed the memorandum of agreement on "development of cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of radioactive minerals and nuclear energy."
