Railways' earnings up 12.46 per cent in April-December 2007

Mumbai: The total earnings of Indian Railways on an originating basis rose to Rs50,787.95 crore during April-December 2007 from Rs45,161.72 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.46 per cent.

The total earnings from goods traffic have gone up from Rs30,533.39 crore during April-December 2006 to Rs34,126.27 crore during April-December 2007, showing an increase of 11.77 per cent.

Total passenger revenue earnings during the first nine months of the financial year 2007-08 were Rs14,526.36 crore compared to Rs12,728.21 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 14.13 per cent.

Revenue earnings from coaching and sundry amounted to Rs2,135.32 crore during April-December 2007 compared to Rs1,900.12 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 11.01 per cent.

Total approximate number of passengers booked during April- December 2007 stood at 4,990.38 million compared to 4,728.08 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.55 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-December 2007 were 2,748.11 million and 2,242.27 million compared to 2,616.76 million and 2,111.32 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.02 per cent and 6.20 per cent respectively.
