Manipur: Congress looks set to retain power

The ruling Congress looked set to retain power in Manipur by winning 24 seats and with a clear lead in five of the remaining seats in the 60-member assembly as latest results were made available by the Election Commission.
The All India Trinamool Congress has secured four seats and was leading in one constituency.
The Naga People's Front has won 2 seats and was leading in 2 others.
The Lok Janshakti Party and the National People's Party have won one seat each.
Congress candidate Chalonlien Amo won the Tipaimukh assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Trinamool Congress rival L Fimate by a margin of over 1,000 votes.
Trinamool Congress nominee Kh Joykishang won the prestigious Thangmeiband assembly seat defeating his nearest Congress rival Jotin Waikhom by over 300 votes.
Former chief minister and NCP president Radhabinod Koijam lost the Saikul assembly seat to Yamthong Haokip of Congress and polled less votes than his nearest rival Doukhomang Haokip of the NCP.
Abdul Nasir of Congress won the Lilong seat defeating Trinamool Congress nominee Md Alaudin while Trinamool Congress candidate K Sarat Singh won the Kongthoujam assembly seat defeating Congress nominee S Ranjan by over 500 votes.
Amin Shah of Congress won the Khetrigao assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Th Nandakishore of the NCP by over 200 votes.
Congress candidate and Social Welfare minister N Loken won the Nambol seat defeating former union sports minister Th Chaoba Singh of Manipur People's Party by over 900 votes.
Forest Minister and Congress candidate Th Debendra Singh won the Jiribam seat defeating A Biren of Trinamool Congress by over 2,000 votes. This is his fifth consecutive win.

The Congress was followed by the People's Democratic Front (PDF), which was leading in two seats. Smaller parties were ahead in the remaining seven seats.
IN Manipur, the Congress is fighting an alliance of 11 opposition parties.
The Congress had contested all 60 seats in the elections held on 28 January, the Trinamool Congress 48, Manipur State Congress Party 31, CPI 24, NCP 22, BJP 19, Manipur People's Party 14. Other small parties also contested a number of seats.
