Mumbai: Wipro Infotech in consortium with its partner NexTenders has signed a three-year contract with the Government of Assam for electronic tendering. The contract is for a unique ASP model with no initial investment from the government.

With this, Assam becomes the first State in the North East to adopt the electronic tendering system.

As per the agreement, the Public Works Department (PWD) of the state government would initially use the 'electronic tendering system' and subsequently other departments would adopt the system in the next six months. The markets and consulting division of Wipro Infotech along with its partner NexTenders would implement this project.

The "Electronic tendering system proposed by Wipro Infotech consortium increases transparency and furthers the Governments commitment to e-governance.

"The Assam Government was impressed with the total electronic tendering system proposed by us and in particular by the unique anti-collusion security system and the multi-modal workflow of the product. We have provided the government with a state-of-the-art product backed by on-site service and training," said Anurag Srivastava, business head, consulting services, Wipro Infotech.

According to the Tarun Gogoi, chief minister of Assam, "Electronic tendering brings complete transparency compared to manual tendering process we were following over the years. With this, PWD becomes the first department in the state to implement this effective process. This is a major step for us as it provides systematic documentation of the complete tendering process, reduction in administrative costs, reduction in human error during tender evaluation & timely completion of projects. Our vision is to make Assam the first e-transparent state, " he added.
