Chennai: Western Union Financial Services, a worldwide leader in money transfer services, and Karnataka Bank have signed an agreement with the city-based Bharat Overseas Bank.

The tie-up is to provide inbound money transfer services at Bharat Overseas Bank locations across India. Initially, the Western Union money transfer service will be available at 24 Bharat Overseas Bank locations and an additional 58 locations will be activated across India during the second phase.

"We continue to see a demand for money transfer services within India," says Western Union regional manager (South India, Sri Lanka, Maldives) Ratheesh Kumar. "By adding Bharat Overseas Bank to the Western Union network, we hope to more closely meet the needs of the many NRIs [non-resident Indians] looking for safe and convenient money transfer services."

Says Bharat Overseas Bank chairman and CEO G Krishna Murthy: "Our alliance with Western Union gives us the opportunity to expand our current array of services and to serve our customers better."
