Verizon creates car that beats traffic jams

Verizon has created a car conceptualised by serial viral video-creator Slovak Michael Krivicka that simply lifts itself up, widens itself out and straddles drives over all the cars in front.

The car is featured in a video that comes as part of an ad for Hum, an app that collects a car's diagnostics and sends the details to a user's phone.

Verizon built this car simply to promote the Hum, an after-market connected car gadget, which enables geofencing and speed alert features, and was basically being marketed as a way for worried parents to keep tabs on their teenagers.

Hum, which cost $10 per month, comes with a module that could plug into a car's onboard diagnostics port, and a hands-free unit that can clip to a visor. The service offered vehicle health monitoring, roadside and emergency assistance, and stolen vehicle tracking.

Krivicka's last work of art was for the "Rings" horror movie that frightened shoppers at a New York electronics store.

This ad for the Hum was shot in Lacaster, California, Krivicka told Chris Matyszczyk of CNET.

The company that actually built the car, A2ZFX, was well-known for its Red Bull Mini car, as also many other bizarre creations.

According to Matyszczyk, the marginal drawback with the so-called Hum Rider was that it seemed to take quite some time to put itself in position to roll over everything before it.

With the flip of a switch, the modified SUV shoots skyward on hydraulic lifts and literally drives over other cars. It was every frustrated-driver-stuck-in-a-gridlock's dream come true.

The specs according to Verizon are, "Hum Rider widens to about eight feet and elevates five feet, to allow it to drive over a wide range of vehicles.

Hum Rider features over 300 feet of hydraulic lines that power everything from the steering and braking to the locomotion.

The hydraulic pumps draw power from a single gas-powered Honda generator under the hood.

At 8500 pounds the Hum Rider weighs almost double the weight of a standard Jeep Grand Cherokee.
