German auto major Volkswagen plans to finalise the introduction of its small car called UP! by the end of this year in India. The car would be priced below the current entry- level hatchback Polo.

The company will consider introducing the small car with a different version for the Indian market that would be modified according to the conditions in India.

Volkswagen Group chief representative India John Chacko told PTI that the company was currently working on the feasibility of launching the UP! In the Indian market and he would like to take a decision by the end of the year.

The company would modify the existing UP!, which had already been introduced in Europe, to meet the Indian consumers' expectations, he added.

In January this year, Chacko had said UP! would likely hit the Indian roads by 2013 or early 2014.

According to Volkswagen executive vice-president Ulrich Hackenberg, the company was looking at "a segment where Hyundai i10 and Maruti's Swift is present".
