Volkswagen sales in India grow over 180 per cent in 2010

Volkswagen goup has achieved impressive sales growth of 180.7 per cent in India in 2010 with total group deliveries of 53,341 vehicles between January and December 2010 2010, against 19,001 vehicles in 2009.

Volkswagen sales comprise the Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen brands. The group also launched three new models - Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Yeti - in the Indian market during the year.

The company also launched the Volkswagen training academy and many other new initiatives.

The Volkswagen Group continues to strengthen its presence in India and is moving towards making a mark in the country. With more than doubled the number of employees to 4,537 in 2010 from 2,116 in 2009, the Group has also taken the number of its dealerships to 163.

The Volkswagen brand has emerged as the largest selling brand of the group in the period with impressive sales figures of 30,319 vehicles in 2010 as against 2,801 cars sold in the year 2009, a big leap of over 500 per cent.

Skoda sold 20,019 cars in 2010 as against 14,535 cars in 2009, a growth of 37.7 per cent.
