Unisys, the American IT company, is planning to expand its presence in the Indian market with subsidiaries and joint ventures. It had a major presence earlier in the Indian market through its joint venture with the Tata group, from which it pulled out in 1997. Its Indian presence is now limited to its subsidiary, Unisys India Ltd.

Unisys has major sales and marketing plans for India, in high technology areas. It has identified several key government sector project areas like voter identity cards, driving licences and vehicle registration, besides the financial sector, where it has a line-up of treasury management, risk management, revenue enhancement and customer relationship solutions.

The company is yet to decide on the number of subsidiaries but the focus would be on 100 per cent subsidiaries as well as joint ventures, for which the Indian subsidiary would act as the holding company.
