Tata Indicom registers maximum increase in market share: TRAI data

Mumbai: With an increase in its market share from 3.53 per cent in March 2004 to 9.7 per cent by March 2007, Tata Indicom has emerged as the fastest growing wireless operator according to the latest data published by TRAI for the year ending March 2007.

"Data published by TRAI is yet another acknowledgement of the fact that Tata Indicom is the preferred service provider for Indian mobile users across all segments, Ashok Sud, president (corporate affairs), Tata Teleservices Ltd. It also bears a testimony to the trust of our valued subscribers as well as strength of our superior next generation network, customer friendly and innovative products and services."

Despite being the late entrant, Tata Teleservices has crossed the milestone of 19 million subscribers. Since establishing a pan-India presence in March 2005, Tata Teleservices has registered a compounded annual growth rate of 112 per cent, the highest in the industry.

Tata Indicom added close to 7.6 million subscribers in the last fiscal, resulting in a year on year increase of 86 per cent in its total subscriber base, again highest in the industry

To sustain this aggressive growth, the group has earmarked capital expenditure of about Rs4,000 crore for the year 2006-2007. This capex will be largely utilised for network expansion plans and new market entries. Elaborating on the expansion plans Sud said, "Tata Indicom is now embarking on an aggressive expansion plan which involves increasing network capacities, introducing new technologies, strengthening the spread and depth of coverage and adding a host of other state-of-the-art technologies. We are aggressively strengthening our presence across India with strong focus on providing customer value with care, trust and innovation."

The company uses the latest CDMA 3G1X technology for its wireless networkand has a reach in 3400 towns across 20 circles and a 19-million customer base.
