Tata Tele bags order for internet connectivity to 1,800 Tamil Nadu schools

Chennai: Tata Teleservices Limited has won the Tamil Nadu government''s order to offer internet connectivity in 1,800 higher secondary schools. In three months time the schools, sizeable number of them located in remote villages will be able to connect to the Internet.

Says S Ramakrishna, general manager, enterprise business group (South), "The order is for our V data cards and USB modems totalling 2,500 units."

While the order size is not large, Tata Teleservices hopes to see some money in the actual usage by the schools. According to Ramakrishna, the expected usage charges from each school are around Rs750 per month. "During the initial period the usage will be low."
