Tata group mobilises Rs2,000 cr for no-holds-barred war against Covid: report

Tata group companies have come together to pool in Rs2,000 as they raise resources for a no-holds-barred war against the Covid-19 pandemic, reports in the Times Group newspapers said citing Tata Group sources.

Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata has taken the lead in the war against the pandemic even as the country’s healthcare infrastructure has been stretched thin limits by the second and devastating wave of the disease.
Tata group companies are currently engaged in setting up Covid critical care infrastructure, including thousands of hospital beds, arranging oxygen and training healthcare staff, according to the reports.
An Economic Times report citing group chairman N Chandrasekaran said the group is expected to pour in Rs2,000 crore with “no limit” directive from Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata. The efforts are buoyed by robust earnings by group companies during the January-March quarter, it added.
Tata Steel, Tata AutoComp Systems, Tata Motors, Indian Hotels, Tata Consultancy Services,Tata International, Voltas and Tata Projects are coordinating the Covid-19 relief efforts, the report cited Banmali Agrawala, president, infrastructure, defence & aerospace, Tata Sons, as saying.
A dedicated team has been formed from each group company to discuss, coordinate and collaborate on a daily basis to pool resources such as hospital beds, oxygen, and vaccines.
Tata Trusts has also started healthcare training programmes for volunteers in collaboration with Christian Medical College in Vellore, the report says.
Indian Hotels, along with Ginger and President Group of Hotels, has offered 1,400 beds for medical supervision. Critical patients will be shifted from these beds to hospitals whenever the need arises. The company even mapped the hotels that were near hospitals in order to initiate swift response to any medical contingencies.
Tata Projects has set up camps for food and accommodation for migrant workers. Tata International, Voltas and Trent have offered warehouses to store critical equipmet and medicines, says the report.
