Tata’s CLiQ to challenge deep-discount e-retailers

The Tata Group is set to launch its ecommerce venture on 27 May under brand name Tata CLiQ. The e-retail venture plans to initially offer apparel, electronics and footwear products and then gradually add new categories.

"Clique and Click came together to form the perfect name for our platform which curates authentic and exclusive products for customers with impeccable taste," said Ashutosh Pandey, chief executive officer of Tata CLiQ.

Indian business houses are taking discount e-retailers by launching their online ventures that offer curated products without any deep discount.

Thus the Aditya Birla Group launched its fashion e-retail venture abof.com last year that targets millennial customers. Similarly Reliance Industries launched its online fashion portal Ajio.com last month.

These conglomerates are launching their ventures on the logic that Indian consumers are already hooked on to online shopping and do not need to be lured with deep discounts.
