Still unable to solve mechanical defects that cause its vehicles to accelerate unintentionally, Toyota Motor Corp, has temporarily suspended sales of 8 models in the US market.

The Japanese car maker has temporarily suspended sales of eight models Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, Sequoia, Highlander, Camry, Avalon, Tundra, Subaru.

Toyota Corolla and the Camry  are its biggest sellers in the US market.

"Due to the sales suspension, Toyota is expected to stop producing vehicles at its production lines in Canada, and in the US in Indiana, Kentucky, Texas and at Subaru for the week of February 1 to assess and coordinate activities," it Toyota said in a statement.

On 21 January, Toyota announced it would recall approximately 2.3 million vehicles after it found out that specific Toyota models certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. Most of the vehicles targeted by the new recall were also included in a separate recall of 4.3 million vehicles late last year involving floor mats that could jam the accelerator pedal.
