Mumbai: Power generation equipment maker Thermax Ltd has secured orders worth Rs820 crore for the supply of coal-fired boilers to a cogeneration plant being set up by a major refinery.

Thermax will supply pulverised coal fired boilers for the captive cogeneration plant of 4 x 750 TPH (2400MW) capacity, according to a regulatory filing by the company.

The high-pressure steam will generate 390MW of electricity and the balance energy produced will be used for process heating within the refinery. The boilers will be fired using coal imported from Indonesia.

Thermax did not name the refinery, but said it is currently implementing significant capacity expansion, slated to process up to 35 million tonnes of crude.

Thermax will manufacture the boilers under technology licence from Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group Inc, USA.

The supply of the boilers will start 12 months from now and will be completed in 30 months, its managing director MS Unnikrishnan told television channel NDTV Profit.

''Apart from Bharat Heavy Electricals and Chinese manufacturers, nobody else in India makes these kind of boilers," Unnikrishnan said.

Thermax stock rose 1.7 per cent to Rs367 after the company announced the receipt of the order.
