Tata Motors looks at market dominance with new range of trucks

Tata Motors has launched the Nex-Gen ULTRA range of intermediate and light commercial vehicles that comprises 14 truck models of varying capacities with flexibility to cater to various fully-build applications.

The ULTRA range has been priced in the range of Rs10 lakh to Rs25 lakh, depending on various applications and models.
Capable of meeting the global trucking standards of emission, safety and features, these trucks have been tested and homologated into various geographies outside India, viz, South Africa, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and more. Powered by futuristic and indigenous 3L and 5L Turbotronn series of engines, the vehicles offer superior performance and best-in-class mileage.
These are also ergonomically designed with spacious, comfortable cabin and car-like features for fatigue-free driving leading to faster turnaround time and enhanced productivity, says Tata Motors.
With longer deck lengths and higher payload capacities, best-in-class NVH and convenient utility features, these trucks would lead to significant increase in revenue and lower cost of operation, it adds.
Designed and created with new features and driving comfort, the new ULTRA range of ILCV are powerful and robust trucks ranging from 7 ton to 16 ton GVW with flexibility to cater to various fully build applications.
“These trucks offer a true business utility vehicle for large fleet owners, captive users, fleet rental, e-commerce and logistics,” according to the company .

With the evolution of hub and spoke model, boom in e-commerce business and restrictions on over-loading, the ILCV segment continues to grow. The comprehensive ULTRA range showcased today is a result of an extensive feedback received from our fleet owners, end consumers and drivers leading to a unique design language, based on comfort, convenience and superior performance. The range provides competitive cost of operations, highest reliability of timely delivery, superior safety features and best-in-class driving comfort,” Girish Wagh, president – Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said.
Tata Motors expects the new ULTRA range to add 2.7 percentage points to its current market share in this segment in FY18, further strengthening its leadership position.
With its contemporary global design, the ULTRA cabin boasts of sufficient storage capacity, better levels of visibility for the driver, safety and driving comfort. “The provisions for various accessories coupled with a walk-through cabin and ergonomically designed interfaces offer a fatigue-less driving experience. The 45-degree hydraulic tilt cabin meets strict European Safety Norms, a segment first from Tata Motors.”
“The Ultra Platform provides immense flexibility to address various customer and segment aspirations with numerous combinations, wider and sleeper cabins, Turbotronn engines ranging from 125 to 210 HP,  a range of wheel bases of 3.3 to 6.8 meters, cabin widths of 1.9 to 2.1 meters, deck lengths from 12 to 32 ft– and more importantly – various applications like tippers, reefers, containers, tankers, poultry, two wheeler carriers, municipal applications, auto-logistics and many more,” says a company release
“Powered by the new generation Turbotronn 3L and 5L diesel engines, the ULTRA range offers class-leading torque range from 360 to 840 Nm resulting in superlative performance, best-in-class fuel economy, lowest TCO, and industry best durability.”
The Ultra range also comes with the widest and most reliable range of gearbox configurations in 5/6 speed in manual and AT versions. Manufactured at the Pune plant, the entire range also comes with power steering system and front parabolic suspension for driving comfort. These new generation engines are also future ready and scalable for BS-VI norms.
ULTRA offers Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking and advanced telematics solutions, thereby helping customers track and control vehicles anywhere in the country. Service includes features like real-time fleet tracking, SMS and email alerts, Geo-fencing and remote unit management all designed to address the business needs of fleet owners and customers.
The ULTRA range comes with a standard warranty of 3 years / 3,00,000 km, supported by extensive country-wide network for sales, service and spare parts. Customers will also benefit from host of excellent aftermarket support through value added services, under the umbrella of ‘Sampoorna Seva’, including a 24X7 workshop, door step service enabled by mobile workshops, TATA PROLIFE – for reconditioned aggregates, AMC packages, breakdown assistance, accidental insurance for drivers and dedicated on-site container workshops on the highways of India.
