Tata Motors December sales rise 10% powered by Zest and Nano

Tata Motors today reported a 10 per cent year-on-year rise in its total sales with 41,734 units sold in December 2014 against 37,836 vehicles sold in December 2013. The spike in sales was aided by rising demand for its new passenger car model the Tata Zest and the revamped Nano.

The company's domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for December 2014 were 37,776 units, a growth of 8 per cent over 35,010 vehicles, sold in December 2013.

Cumulative sales (including exports) for the fiscal stood at 362,995 units, 17 per cent lower than the 435,079 vehicles sold last year.

While market continues to remain challenged by macroeconomic trends, segments such as M&HCV showed a 62 per cent growth year-on-year. Other segments such as passenger cars continue to show positive growth of 52 per cent growth while exports have grown 40 per cent in December 2014 compared to the year ago period.

In December 2014, Tata Motors passenger vehicles recorded sales 12,040 units, a growth of 30 per cent, compared to 9,272 units sold in December 2013.

The trend of growth in passenger vehicles continued - with the strong Zest and Nano sales. While the sales of the passenger cars in December 2014 were at 9,956 units, higher by 52 per cent over December 2013, UV sales declined by 24 per cent to 2,084 units in December 2014.

Cumulative sales of all passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal stood at 92,227 units, 11 per cent lower compared to last year.

The company's sales of commercial vehicles in December 2014 in the domestic market at 25,736 units remained flat. LCV sales stood at 13,298 units, showing a decline of 26 per cent over December 2013, while M&HCV sales showed a growth of 62 per cent year-on--year at 12,438 units.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal was 234,142 units down 21 per cent from last year. Cumulative LCV sales at 145,425 units showed a decline of 32 per cent over last year's sales while M&HCV sales at 88,717 units were higher by 10 per cent over last year.

The company's export sales stood at 3,958 units in December 2014, a 40 per cent increase from the 2,826 vehicles sold in December 2013. Cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 36,626 units grew marginally by 1 per cent.
