Nano sales top 10,000-unit for the first time in April

Sales of the Nano crossed the 10,000-mark for the first time in April, a growth of 184 per cent over the sales for the same month in 2009, Tata Motors announced today.

The company's total sales (including exports) of commercial and passenger vehicles in April 2011 added up to 64,383 vehicles, a 13-per cent growth over the year-ago figures. Domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for April 2011 were 60,125 nos., an 11 per cent growth.

The company's sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market in April grew 19 per cent to 36,738. Sales of light commercial vehicles grew by 28 per cent to 22,802 units, while medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales were up by a modest six per cent at 13,936 units.

Tata Motors reported total sale and distribution off-take of 25,436 units of passenger vehicles (23,387 units of Tata vehicles and 2,049 Fiat vehicles) in the domestic market in April, as against year-ago figures of 24,899.

Sales of the Indica range (4,250 units) dropped by 53 per cent and of the Indigo range (5,282 unit) fell by 27 per cent in April. The Sumo/Safari/Aria/Venture range saw a 15 per cent growth in sales in April 2011 at  3,843 units.

The company said sales of Jaguar Land Rover – the UK-based luxury car-maker is a Tata Motors subsidiary – continued their upward trend (See: Jaguar Land Rover zooms to record sales in March). The company's total exports at 4,258 vehicles, were also up by 36 per cent.
