Tata Motors to build auto plant in Thailand

Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd has announced having submitted an application to build a fuel-efficient passenger car plant in Thailand, without disclosing any other details. It also said that it would use Thailand as a manufacturing hub for sales in south east Asia.
According to reports the company would invest around $200 million in the plant to assemble a new low-cost vehicle and a components manufacturing base.
Thailand's tax and other incentives and duty exemptions to manufacturers investing $150 million onwards to produce 100,000 units by the fifth year of operations, has already attracted Japanese auto majors like Toyota, Honda and Suzuki to make fuel efficient cars in the country.
The Tata Group company already has a tie up with Thonburi to build up to 35,000 one-tonne pick-up trucks a year over the next three to five years.
