Siemens records new sales of over 160 per cent

For the first quarter ended 31 December 2009, new orders for Siemens Ltd. rose by 161 per cent to Rs5,168 crores as compared to Rs1,980 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Sales rose by 13 per cent to Rs1,834 crore compared to Rs. 1,629 crores in the corresponding period in the previous year, while operating profit rose by 125 per cent to Rs 342 crores over the comparable first quarter in 2008-09.

The profit figures are strictly not comparable as PBT and PAT for the first quarter of the fiscal 2008-09 includes dividend of Rs223 crore received from Siemens Information System Ltd. (SISL) and from Siemens Information Processing Systems Private Ltd. (SIPS).

Consequently, the Profit Before Tax for the quarter ended 31 December 2009, decreased by 9 per cent and stood at Rs358 crore as against Rs392 crore recorded during the corresponding period in the previous year.

The profit after tax decreased by 28 per cent to Rs236 crore over Rs331 crore in the same period of the previous year.

Siemens's unexecuted order value position as of 31 December 2009 was Rs13,605 crores, representing a rise of 33 per cent, up from Rs10,258 crore in the last fiscal.
