Samsung is said to be working on a Google Glass-like smart eyewear that would connect to a smartphone and allow calls to be made. Users would also be able to listen to music.

Samsung rival, Google's internet-connected wearable computing device has a small camera fitted on the right side of the glasses and allows for a host of tasks, which includes watching or recording videos, clicking pictures, listening to music, accessing web pages, etc.

Fox News said, Samsung's smart eyewear could very well be named as 'Galaxy Glass', in line with the South Korean electronics giant's Galaxy range of smartphones and tablets.

Meanwhile, the internet search company recently unveiled, its range for prescription lenses and styled frames of Glass, allowing users choice from a variety of shades and designs for the smart device.

The Samsung's gadget, however, is expected to be launched in Berlin, at a major trade show in September, reports said.

It was already the first major firm to launch a smartwatch, and could beat Google to market with the smart eyewear, as the search firm had so far had been tightlipped about the date that Glass would go on general sale.

The Korea Times quoted a  Samsung official as saying the market for smart eyewear was huge.

It quoted an official at Samsung Electronics as saying, "it would be used in trucks, cars and had a greater impact on related industries such as glass- and coatings-makers."

According to the officials the company was currently developing its smart glasses, tentatively called 'Galaxy Glass' with the goal of launching the product at this year's IFA fair in Berlin at the earliest.

It was also believed that Samsung had already registered a patent in Korea, according to the Korea Intellectual Property Office.

The glasses would be expected to work on lines similar to the Gear smartwatch, as companion to the user's mobile phone and showing them notifications.

Samsung had already launched the Gear, a smart watch that beat most of its competitors to market and the company had followed it up revealing plans for a pair of smart glasses.
