Samsung Group today said sales of the global Galaxy S3 sales went past the 20 million units mark in just 100 days of its debut in May 2012.

The company launched the flagship smartphone powered by the Android operating system from Google  in Europe in late May and the release schedule was around
three months ahead of new phone announcement by rivals Apple, Nokia and Motorola.

The record-breaking sales that were three times faster than Galaxy S2 were six times quicker than Galaxy S.

According to Samsung brisk sales of the S III are helping to continue with its dominance in the smartphone market. According to Strategy Analytics Samsung overtook Apple in worldwide smartphone shipments in 2011.

Samsung and Apple are locked in legal battles around the world over whether Samsung's mobile devices copied Apple products. Last week the iphone maker added the S III to the list of products, it alleges Samsung had copied.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy S3 sales exceeded the 10 million mark in 50 days since its debut, equaling 200,000 sales per day.
