South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics, expects worldwide sales of its new Galaxy S III that was launched at the end of last month, to top 10 million in July, which will become its fastest selling smartphone.

The Seoul-based company, which does not disclose sales figures of its smartphones, today said that it expects its handset division to post higher revenues in the current second quarter than the previous quarter.

Helped by its fast-selling Galaxy series smartphones, Samsung captured a record 25-per cent of the global market share in the first quarter of the current year to become the world's number one handset vendor for the first time.

It sold 24 million units of the first Galaxy S model since its debut in June 2010 and 28 million of the Galaxy S II phones in 13 months, Samsung said this month.

The mobile handset business accounted for 4.27 trillion won ($3.6 billion) - more than 70 per cent of Samsung's operating income during January-March 2012.

The Samsung Galaxy S III,   the successor to Samsung Galaxy S II was launched on 3 May 2012 in London. The device was released late in the same month in 28 countries, including in Europe and the Middle East and last week in the US.
