Samsung tops global market sales in laser printers: IDC

New Delhi: Samsung Electronics has announced that the company has jumped to the top position in the global rankings of colour laser multifunction printer market, thanks to innovative products launchings and strategic investments in overseas business.

According to the market research company, IDC, Samsung's A4 colour laser multifunction printer sold over eighty thousand units with a 30.9 per cent market share worldwide for the second quarter this year. Samsung's market share in the laser multifunction market accounted for 29.4 per cent in Europe, which was 0.5 per cent higher than the nearest competitor.

Samsung Electronics also made a big impact in the colour laser printer market. The company's printer's market share reached 19.9 per cent to remain in the second position worldwide for seven consecutive quarters since 2006. While the other printer vendors dropped 2 per cent of their market share, Samsung Electronics showed the highest growth rate in comparison with competitors with an increase of 4 per cent in the market share.

The market share sharply increasing in Italy with 47 per cent, with impressive sales in  Germany, UK and the CIS region. Samsung created a brand awareness of the printers in Italy by introducing ads during Euro2008 soccer championships.

According to the Korean company, the inspiring accomplishment has been achieved mainly due to the overseas business performance. As part of its global expansion plans in 2008, the company held product launching shows in Europe, South-East Asia and other major regions to announce six new product series, such as the CLX-3175FN, the world's smallest colour laser multifunction printer, and the MultiXpress C8380ND, the world's fastest colour digital multifunction printer for enterprise customers.

With more new product launches expected in the second quarter of 2008, the company is confident of retaining the number one spot in the colour printer segment in the world.

Moreover, Samsung's regular sales growth in South-East Asia and Europe regions also contributed to the global colour laser printer market.
