Enterprise software leader SAP yesterday signed a reseller agreement with the Siemens Healthcare to sell the latter's hospital information system (HIS) i.s.h.med, a leading health information system for the clinical and healthcare providers.

The reseller agreement, which expands the already existing relationship between Siemens and SAP in the healthcare IT market, enables healthcare providers to seek out comprehensive, efficiency-building software solutions all from one source.

i.s.h.med is a clinical information and workplace system that is integrated into the SAP based on the SAP Business Warehouse for healthcare solution portfolio. It is based on the SAP ERP system that covers both administrative and logistic tasks.

''Siemens and SAP remain focused on not only developing innovative technologies for our customers, but on creating partnerships that help streamline customers' access to those technologies,'' said Janet Dillione, CEO, Health Services, Siemens Healthcare. ''With this new reseller agreement and via SAP's presence in key target markets, together we can help deliver a comprehensive range of solutions that contribute towards improved healthcare worldwide.''

Through the new reseller agreement, healthcare providers will have simplified access to innovative information systems that link administrative and controlling functions, such as billing, human resources, patient management and business intelligence (BI), with clinical processes, thereby helping customers profit from greater efficiencies and enhance enterprise customer and employee satisfaction by leveraging enterprise resource management software from SAP.

''The current stimulus programs in many countries around the world confirm that information technology is seen as a vitally important means of modernizing healthcare services, because it forms the foundation of cost containment and improved quality of care,'' said John Papandrea, senior vice president of the Healthcare industry business unit at SAP. ''Information systems that enable improvements in both business and clinical functions play an essential role in improving, above all, efficiency and quality. With the expansion of our engagement, SAP and Siemens are well prepared for the requirements of the future.''

This system is expanded by i.s.h.med which supports medical as well as care functions in the clinical environment. i.s.h.med supports employees in the hospital during their individual work processes and provides a plurality of functionalities for planning, documentation, coordination, communication and evaluation.

The security of investment is ensured by a flexible system configuration that facilitates quick reactions by hospital management to changing general conditions. The software is deployed in around 300 hospitals, 18 countries, and in 8 languages.
