Reliance Telecom has broken out of the COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) lobby. It says it disagrees with the legal notice that COAI has served to the Department of Telecom.

COAI served a legal notice to DoT yesterday saying that they were unnecessarily delaying giving out spectrum to the existing operators.

COAI said according to the guidelines that have been laid by the government, quite a few operators are already eligible for the next round of spectrum allocation which has not happened because of the new recommendations of the TRAI.

The COAI said that this was not fair and that they should be allotted spectrum as it was promised. What we understand today is that Reliance Telecom disagrees with this notice.

It has written a letter to DoT saying that it is not a part of the legal notice. It does not agree with COAI when it says that spectrum is not being given out and it needs to be given out for efficient usage by the existing operators.
