Mumbai: Reliance Infocomm has announced the closure of its flagship scheme, the Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Offer, through which it has acquired most of its 5 million subscribers. The scheme will close on 14 December 2003, according to a news release from the company.

The interconnect usage regime (IUC) is expected to become applicable on 15 December, which will likely bring tariff and plan changes from all telecom companies. A company official said new schemes and tariffs are likely at Reliance, too, once the IUC regime comes into play.

The Pioneer Offer, which initially required consumers to submit post-dated cheques for three years, was subsequently modified, with other payment options introduced for better acceptance.

A later monsoon plan, which offered handsets with connections at Rs 501, also fetched a good response from the market, besides the Rs 149 and Rs 249 monthly commitment plans.
