Mumbai: The much-publicised Dhirubhai Ambani Entrepreneurship (DAE) scheme, the retailing scheme of Reliance Infocomm, is being phased down.

The number of DAEs, who have paid around Rs 10,000 each to obtain dealership, is going to be halved from the existing 35,000, and may eventually be brought down to a number a few thousands only, says an official with Reliance Infocomm.

The non-renewal of the company's dealership agreement with these agents is on account of their "not performing well," says the official. The dealers will be returned their deposits as well as paid their commission on the connections they have sold. The commission starts with Rs 100 for each telephone connection sold, and is disbursed from the 25th sale onwards, increasing in slabs thereafter.
